Anthony Avillo, M.S.
ANTHONY AVILLO, M.S. retired in March, 2015 after a 30-year career in the fire service. Avillo was a deputy chief in North Hudson (NJ) Regional Fire & Rescue, assigned as 1st Platoon regional tour commander. He holds a Master’s Degree in National Security Studies and a BS degree in Fire Science from New Jersey City University. Avillo is currently the Director and Deputy Fire Marshal at the Monmouth County (NJ) Fire Academy. He is an Adjunct Professor at New Jersey City University. Avillo is an FDIC instructor and member of the FDIC advisory board and the editorial advisory board of Fire Engineering. He is the author of Fireground Strategies, 3rd edition (Fire Engineering, 2015) and Fireground Strategies Workbook Volumes I, II, and III (Fire Engineering, 2002, 2010, 2016). Avillo also co-authored with Chief Ed Flood Full Contact Leadership, (Fire Engineering, 2017). He was a contributing author to Fire Engineering’s Handbook for Firefighter I and Firefighter II (Fire Engineering, 2009, 2018) and is co-author of its Study Guide (Fire Engineering, 2010). Avillo has also contributed to both volumes of the Pass It On books by Billy Goldfeder (Pennwell, 2015, 2016). Avillo also has a regular column in Fire Rescue magazine called Progress Reports. Avillo was a collaborator in the Tactical Perspectives DVD series (Fire Engineering, 2011) and has had issued the DVD’s Control of Fireground Operations (Fire Engineering, 2016) and Forging a Culture of Safety (Fire Engineering, 2013). Avillo also co-hosts a radio show, Fireground Strategies and Other Stuff from the Street with Chief Jim Duffy on Fire Engineering BlogTalk Radio. Avillo was recipient of the 2012 Fire Engineering/ISFSI George D. Post Fire Instructor of the Year Award.
Chris has 17 years of total experience,12 years at company officer level or above. He Currently serves as District Chief with Walton County Fire Rescue. Chris is the Lead Instructor at Northwest Florida State College Fire Academy and is Co-owner of All In Fire Training.
SEAN DUFFY is a 15-year veteran of the fire service and has worked in both County and City departments. He is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic for Pasco County Fire-Rescue where he works on the departments West side. He is a co-founder of “Build Your Culture” training group and developed the course entitled “Searchable vs. Survivable- Educational Decision Making on the Fire ground”. He has an Associates in Fire Science and is also a State of Florida Fire Instructor, Fire Officer 1 and Live Fire Training Instructor. Sean serves as a board member and training trustee for his departments FOOLS chapter as well as an instructor within his organization, The Great Florida Fire School and The Worst Fire Conference.
Ron Givens is a career firefighter in SW Florida. Ft Myers to be exact. Ron is a fifth generation firefighter, with more than 100 years of documented fire service bloodline back to 1919 in East Hanover, NJ. Ron is currently a Captain for South Trail Fire & Rescue, a Florida Instructor II, and holds an Associates degree in Fire Science. Ron has been with his current department for 12 years. Ron is a proud member of the Gulf Coast FOOLS and IAFF Local 1826. Ron began his career as a volunteer firefighter in the Bayshore Region of New Jersey. Ron has learned a lot from the mentors in his life that have helped him along the way. Ron lives by the motto "It is better to ask for forgiveness, than ask for permission", and believes in the fact that nobody in the fire service is going to hold anybodies hand. Get up, get out there, and GO GET IT. Ron is a founder of the training company Shut Up And Train, a cadre member of Build Your Culture, as well as a cadre member of TicTips Fire Training.
Steve Greene served eight years as a volunteer firefighter/EMT in Guilford County, NC and Onondaga County, NY, where he was certified in Firefighter I & II, Hydraulics/Pump Engineer, High-Level Rescue and both NC and NY Emergency Medical Technician. He also worked for Guilford County EMS and served as a fire inspector in Upstate NY. Outside of the fire service, he served as the executive director of several non-profit organizations, where he specialized in volunteer retention, leadership development, board training and overall operations for multi-million-dollar organizations. He was a frequent speaker at local, regional and national conferences. He co-chaired a national convention of his professional organization, NAASE and was elected to its Board of Governors.
Steve is the president and executive producer of Dalmatian Productions and the Creator and Host of the podcast, “5-Alarm Task Force,” which is honored to be a sponsor of the 2018 Great Florida Fire School and was where he presented, “The Elephant in the Firehouse: When Ego Gets in the Way of Passion” and he has been invited to return to the 2019 Great Florida Fire School in October to present this class again. In January of 2019, Steve was certified as a State Fire Instructor for topics not required on promotional exams.
Christopher (Woody) Hart is a LT./Engineer/Paramedic at Midway Fire District. He has been employed with Midway for 13 years. Woody has been a Paramedic and has worked in Santa Rosa County 29 years. Woody is a Nurse in a local emergency room and is a certified Flight Paramedic. Woody is the PEER Support Coordinator for Midway Fire District and is associated with the Florida Health and Safety Collaborative. He has made "PEER Support" his primary concern for 5 years and has sat in on multiple CISM over his career. His primary concern is prevention and wants to make sure "Everyone Goes Home" both physically and Mentally.
Carl Hohenstein has been a firefighter since 1986 and served as a Lieutenant on Squad 3 with the South Walton Fire District before his retirement. He served as chairperson for the districts training committee and was a team member and training for the districts technical rescue team. He is co-founder and instructor with All in Fire Training. Carl also serves as a lead instructor for the Northwest Florida State College fire academy.
Justin is currently a fire fighter paramedic who has been serving his community for 15 years in Pensacola, FL. He works for Escambia County Fire Rescue assigned to Station 4 in Cantonment, which is an ALS station tasked with the HAZMAT response for the county. Justin is a Florida Fire Instructor 3 and has taught numerous classes with Fire Service Training LLC and also teaches BLS, ACLS, and PALS with CPR Pensacola. He is committed not only to providing initial and re-certifications, but providing a quality experience while doing so.
Justin Matusiak is a 13 plus year veteran of the Fire and EMS service. Justin has worked in busy urban and suburban departments as both a volunteer and career firefighter. Justin cut his teeth at one of the busiest volunteer houses at Escambia County Fire Rescue (FL). Justin worked full time as an EMT for Escambia County (FL) EMS and was part of the first Critical Care Transport crew in the departments history. Justin is currently a Firefighter/EMT with the Tallahassee (FL) Fire Department and is assigned to Engine 6 on A Watch home of the Parkway Hooligans. Justin is a FL EMT, Fire Officer 1, Instructor 1 , LFTI and additionally has completed all Inspector 1 and Investigator 1 classes. Justin also holds an A.S in Fire Science and a B.A.S in Fire Science Administration. Justin is currently developing a forcible entry and thru the lock training program for the Tallahassee Fire Department. Justin has a passion for training, brotherhood, halligans, Can jobs and large pots of black coffee.
Nick Peppard has 14 years in the Fire and EMS service. Nick has worked in busy urban systems as a career fireman at the Tallahassee (FL) FD and Hillsborough County (FL) Fire Rescue. Nick is currently a Captain at the Holley-Navarre Fire District as is assigned to Engine Co. 41 on the District's west side. Nick is also a Paramedic-Field Training Officer with Lifeguard Ambulance Service Santa Rosa County, is an adjunct instructor at the Northwest Florida State College Fire Academy and is the owner/operator of North Florida Fire and EMS Training, LLC. Nick is a FL and Nationally Registered Paramedic, Fire Officer 2, Instructor 2, Inspector 1, Investigator 1, LFTI, HAZMAT Tech, Pump Operator, VFIS Instructor, AHA Instructor and holds two A.S. Degrees in Fire Science and EMS Technology. Nick is a return instructor at the Great Florida Fire School in Fort Myers, FL. He is very passionate about training and helping others better themselves in the fire service so that we can better fulfill our oath to serve our communities.
Julio Ramos is a twelve year student of the trade, working as a career Lieutenant/Paramedic for a large, urban department in Central Florida. The last seven years he has been assigned to special operations. He is the co-administrator for East Coast Fire Tactics and is the owner and instructor for Fireground and Special Operations Concepts LLC. He is part of Florida’s USAR Task Force 4.
Julio is passionate in hazardous materials, forcible entry, VES and searches, and saw work, specifically, saw maintenance and usage. He believes in gaining technical knowledge as well as acquiring experience. He believes in the motto “Destiny Favors The Prepared.”
Joel Richardson is a Lieutenant with Escambia County Fire Rescue in northwest Florida. He has been with ECFR for 10 years, and was previously employed with Pensacola Fire Department for 6 years. He is currently assigned to Engine 6, in the Ensley community and is the Hazmat Coordinator for the department. He teaches for the Florida RIT Operations Group (FROG) throughout the country for Rapid Intervention Team training. He is also a Flight Paramedic with ShandsCair Flight program, and teaches at George Stone Technical Center for both Fire and EMT school.
Anthony Rowett Jr.
Anthony Rowett, Jr. is a Captain with the Mobile (AL) Fire Rescue Department. He was previously a firefighter with the Ogdensburg (NJ) Fire Department. He has multiple degrees in both fire science and emergency services management. He is a graduate of the Alabama Smoke Diver course. He is the owner of Port City Fire Training. He is a contributing author for multiple fire service publications. He has instructed at multiple fire service conferences as well as for individual fire departments. He is also a co-host on the Generation Engine podcast on Fire Engineering Blog Talk Radio.
